From the main city of Perugia, visitors may venture westward to Lake Trasimeno or furthur into the countryside. The smaller towns of Castel Rigone, Castiglione del Lago, Lisciano Niccone, Magione, Panicale, Passignano sul Trasimeno, Tuoro sul Trasimeno near Lake Trasimeno would be good options for those wishing to experience Italy in depth and up close.
However, other larger towns such as Orvieto, Assisi, Spoleto, Todi, Gubbio and even Narni, Panicale or Norcia would also be great choices. No matter where you decide to stay in Umbria, visitors will be able to sample the true Italy.
